My first 70.3 Marshman

Last weekend 6th May I raced my first ever 70.3 and only my 5th ever triathlon.
The race in question was the Marshman down in Lydd.

The race is based on Romney marsh which maybe flat but what it lacks in hills is replaced with headwind!!!

The day started with the BTF cancelling the swim due to lake temperatures being below current limits.
The saw the 70.3 half ironman turn into a duathlon,we started with a 5.4km run followed by the 92km bike then the std 21 km run.
This race was a training race for me in prep for IM UK WimbleBall,I was set strict power figures and run pacing by my coach Ben Ward, which I had to stick to for him to collect the relavent data he needed for my A race in June.

The first run was over before it had begun in less than 20 minutes, and I arrived into T1 in 2nd place and left in under 1-30,due to the severe weather I opted to pull some wind proof Arm warmers and gloves on which slightly slowed my T1 time down but I was thank full as I left transition.
The bike begun into a massive headwind and left me starring at my power meter thinking this is going to be a long cold ride!!!

Out on the road I was soon passed by Seb Navarro a Gb athlete who I knew was a very strong biker.
I knew I had to keep to my plan and stick to my selected power figures which I did and so the game of cat and mouse begun as me and Seb changed places several time throughout the bike course.
The Marsh is known for its savage winds and being a local athlete I'm lucky enough to spend many hours getting hurt there,i knew I had spent all winter getting battered by the winds so today on my TT bike I just kept low and sat on the power.
The bike course I knew very well and had hoped for a sub 2-35,as I came into T2 I realised a 2-31 bike split was very reasonable and it gave me 4th fastest bike split.
Now all I needed to do was stick to my pacing and run the 21km to the finish, the final run for me was very tough due to the first 5km run which had been quite unexpected.
There wasn't much to say about the run except it was windy wet and rather muddy....the run for me I knew was going to be tough as I'm currently suffering with shin problems,I can honestly say that deciding to wear my Compressport calf gaurds was a god send as I had no pain on the run at all.
I crossed the finished with a run split of 1-31 which gave me the 5th fastest run of the day and
A finish time of 4:24:29.

I finished 3rd A/G overall and 4th inc 1pro.

Job done nows it's time to recover in my Compressport full legs.
